Grandma’s Popcorn Balls
First of all, I simply love Grandma’s Family Favorite Popcorn Balls! Rookie Cookers use caution! Making “Grandma Afton’s Popcorn Balls” is not for the faint of heart. Little known fact, there is an art to popping popcorn. I am no “Betty Crocker”, I have issues popping popcorn. In a pot. On the stove. Who knew? I don’t burn too much. Those who know me are not surprised.
And, when you pop the popcorn leave the uncooked and burnt kernels in the pot to dispose of later. Not only is it easier on our teeth, our pigs love leftovers.
cook lots of Popcorn
1 cup corn syrup
2 cup brown sugar
1 can sweet condensed milk
1/2 c butter
First steps to make Grandma’s popcorn balls.
Boil corn syrup and sugar for 5 minutes.
Then, add milk and butter.
Further more, cook syrup until it reaches the cracked stage (insurmountable amount of patience required).
Finally, pour caramel over the popcorn and mix well.
Remember, butter your hands and make sure caramel is cool before rolling mixture into popcorn balls.
Definitely a slice of heaven for the taste buds 🙂
1. Make sure your pot is large enough. You’ll learn the same way I did if you let it boil over. Okay all over the stove.
2. Then, only then add the popcorn while the caramel is warm.
3. Nevertheless, wait until the caramel cools before sticking your buttery hands in it to make popcorn ball. Burnt hands are not cool. Nor are they easily cured with the scrumptious bites of almost but not quite Grandmas popcorn balls.
As a result, no one can ever make Grandma’s Popcorn Balls better than Grandma! Close maybe if your lucky.
4.Last but not least, although I never use a thermometer to cook with, it is not a bad idea. I am sure they suggest using one for a reason. These words of wisdom were passed on to me so I will pass them along to you.PATIENCE GRASSHOPPER PATIENCE
